Playstation 3 Release Date and Price Point Revealed

"Los Angeles--When Sony announced the Playstation 3 at last year's Electronic Entertainment Expo, one of the most impressive parts of the machine was its specs. The console was a gearhead's dream with three Ethernet parts, two HDMI ports, six USB port, and a host of other features. Many wondered how Sony could pack so much into a sleek box and still price the system competitively.

How things have changed in a year.

According to the latest specifications released by Sony, the PS3 now comes with only one Ethernet port and four USB ports. Also, the lack of a second HDMI port means that the "dual-screen setup running 1080p" function that was shown off last year is no longer a possibility.

The Playstation 3 will come in two configurations; one will have a 20GB and 60GB hard drive. However, losing 40GB isn't the only downgrade with the 20GB version. The 20GB version, priced at $499, will not have Memory Stick, SD, or Compact Flash inputs, Wi-Fi capabilities, or any HDMI output.

The new motion-sensitive controller, included standard in both the 20GB and 60GB models, will lack a feature that was present in the Playstation 2's DualShock 2 controller: vibration. Citing the new "six-degree," a statement from Sony says that "vibration itself interferes with information detected by the sensor."

The removal of vibration could also have something to do with the lawsuit won by Immersion Technologies, which sued Sony for copyright infringement based on the rumble feature in Playstation controllers. Microsoft faced a similar suit, but settled out of court.

World of Warcraft to the Big Screen
Source: Variety

"Warner Bros.-based Legendary Pictures has picked up film rights to adapt the popular fantasy video game franchise World of Warcraft and will develop the project with game publisher Blizzard Entertainment, which is owned by Vivendi.

While the "Warcraft" franchise has been around for more than a decade, the most recent iteration, the megahit online title "World of Warcraft," has transformed the video game industry.

Unlike most games, where players pay $50 once and play until they're done, more than 6 million people around the world pay $14.99 per month to participate in the multiplayer game.

Legendary put up half the money for Warners' Batman Begins and the upcoming Superman Returns."

Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3)

Monday May 8th.

Electronic Entertainment Expo started today. It brings a lot of things that strike my interest. Each year I get more and more interested in the things that are presented at E3. It gradually gets better each and every year.

Top 5 things I'm looking forward to:

5. Unreal Tournament 2007. (PC/PS3/Xbox 360)

Everyone that loves FPS always has that one that they hold close to there heart. For me it has always been Unreal. (my first LAN party game)
With UT07's release date in Winter 06 it gives me enough time to save up for a next gen system. This next gen system for me will be the warhorse called the Playstation 3.
When it comes to games I love graphics so I always end up getting the system with the highest end graphics. Playstation 3 is without a doubt that system.
Unreal Tournament 07 is built on the Unreal engine 3 and it offers massively upgraded graphics and whole new gameplay. It will still be the fast paced non stop action shooter that everyone has grown to love but with crazy graphics.

4. The redesi
gned Playstation 3 controller. (PS3)

Though I don't have a problem with this design I would not have a problem it they changed a couple things. In my opinion they need to change the left analog stick to the directional pad and vice versa. It is a move by Sony that is long overdue. They have had basically the same controller design since Ps1. When you look at Nintendo they have gone through different controller designs with each system that was released. I don't think Playstation needs to change with every system, I just think to move the directional pad and the left thumb stick would not be a move backwards.

3. Metal Gear Solid 4 (PS3)

I really shouldn't have to explain myself here. I will anyways though. The original Metal Gear Solid was and is an amazing game. I use to play it nonstop. It was innovative and just plain fun. You did things in that game that you couldn't do anywhere else (snowtracks around crates=hours of fun). I think that 4 will be the same way.
I look at Solid being an old friend of mine. I have watched him grow up as he has me. I think it is great how he looks as an old man. From the videos that I've seen of this game the gameplay looks like cut scenes. That makes me a very happy kid. I can not wait to see what kind of story Konami will have for Solid. Konami did say that this storyline will break away from the original MGS. That also makes me very excited.

2. Playstation 3 pricepoint and the release date. (PS3)

We have all been waiting patiently for the price point and a release date for the Playstation 3. I hope that at E3 they will finally give us what we all have been waiting for.
Gamespot.com will have a live stream of Sony's press conference in about one hour and I am going to miss class for it. I just hope that it is going to be able to be released in the time that they originally said it would. In the fall of 06. From what I heard Nvidia is doing the graphics and Nvidia will not be able to produce the card by the fall. So I am keeping my fingers crossed.

1. The release of the new Alliance race for World o
f Warcraft. (PC)
Blizzard already announced that Blood Elves is the new race for the Horde. However they have yet to say what is the Alliances new race. Everyone I know that plays WoW including myself believe that It will be released this week at E3. The kids that I play with think that there are three options for the new race. Dark Trolls, since Horde got a Blood Elf Alliance will get a A race from the Horde like a Dark Troll. The second thought is Furbolg and the third is Worgen. I guess we will have to sit and wait it out. I'm for the Horde anyways so I really don't plan on playing the new race I just want to know which one it is going to be.

Apple MacBook Pro

Time is getting very close for myself to get a notebook. I plan on buying it in just about 2 weeks from today. I have done a lot of research on the specs of different kinds. I have come to the decision of purchasing an
Apple MacBook Pro.

Though Microsoft Windows has made me into the geek I am today I think changing operating systems might be a very exciting and new adventure for me. I've always like the feeling of starting new and I think this will offer that same feeling. It has an integrated Isight and a built in mic in the speakers. So this will be perfect if and when I finally get a cast going on. This is my first actual entry so I will keep you updated as things progress.

Pros:
1. It is a Mac no more Fisher Price OS.
2. Less chance of getting virus' and it's a sturdy little tank.
3. It has an intergrated Isight on the very top.
4. ILife 06 programs. Very very very cool programs.
5. Good music programs like Garageband. So Finsin will become a lot better.
6. I can still play WoW when I leave for Akron University.

Cons:
1. Heat issues.
2. Sometimes Wifi issues.

Overall the pros outweigh the cons so it is only a mater of time intill I join up with the other "switchers".
